Carol Anderson’s ‘The Second’ to Launch on June 01

Bloomsbury USA announced that noted historian and educator, Carol Anderson’s new book will debut on June 01, 2021. In a tweet on Wednesday, the publisher said that the book, title ‘The Second: Race and Guns in a Fatally Unequal America’, is an unflinching, critical new look at the Second Amendment.

The Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, ratified on December 15, 1791, protects the rights of American citizens to keep and bear arms. It is one of the most controversial amendments to the US Constitution, having been criticized heavily after every mass shooting or racial crime that happens in the US, which are not uncommon events.

The book, therefore, is an important one, especially since it is coming from an intellectual like Carol Anderson, who’s also a representative of the community that has severely borne the brunt of this amendment. On the official website of the bestselling author of ‘White Rage’, it is stated that the book analysis the Second Amendment from the perspective of citizenship rights and the human rights of African Americans. It also says that similar to the times the amendment was enacted, when the enslaved, which were the blacks, could not carry, use, or own firearms, the gun ownership is curtailed disproportionately to the African Americans even today.

Carol Anderson is the Charles Howard Candler Professor of African American studies at Emory University. She is also a New York Times bestselling author of White Rage; One Person, No Vote; We Are Not Yet Equal; Eyes Off the Prize; and Bourgeois Radicals. Carol also an authority on African American history and is a human rights activist for African Americans.
