HarperCollins India announced on Sunday that it will publish legendary Indian all-rounder Ravi Shastri’s first book in 2021. The announcement came on January 10, a memorable for Shastri and world cricket as he hit six sixes 36 years ago. The publisher said in the official announcement that the cricketer’s debut book will be a cricket memoir, and will reflect on his cricketing life.

The premier publishing house released a statement on its website where it said that Ravi Shastri’s memoir will be published in the summer of 2021, though no specific date was mentioned. Speaking about the book, HarperCollins India’s Senior Commissioning Editor, Sonal Nerurkar said that the decorated cricketer, who’s also the current head coach of the national men’s cricket team, has a unique perspective on the game. On the other hand, publisher Diya Kar said that Shastri’s love for the game and his experiences are a treasure.

“I’ve had the privilege to play against, watch as well as commentate, and now coach, some of the greatest cricketers to ever walk out on the pitch. I’m very pleased to be sharing my stories, a glimpse into my exciting life involved with cricket, in this book published by HarperCollins India.”

About the Author

Ravi Shastri is one of the most prolific all-rounders to have played for India. His post-retirement career has been as decorated as his playing days, working different roles – commentator, director of the team, and cricket coach. Shastri was also the second player after arguably the greatest cricketer of all-time, Sir Garfield Sobers, to hit six sixes in an over. He achieved the feat on the 10th of January, 1985. He played for the country between 1981-1992, scoring around 6900+ international runs with 15 tons, and 280 wickets.

Shastri won the man of the series for the World Championship Cricket in Australia, the first overseas cricket match telecasted live in India apart from the ’83 world cup. He also won his famous Audi 100 for his pivotal role in India’s series victory. Shastri also had a short stint as the captain of the side between 1987-1989. Currently, he is the head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team and has achieved unprecedented feats like winning a test series in Australia (2018-2019).
