Penguin India to Publish Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s First Book

Premier publishing house Penguin India will publish ace film director and producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s first book, the company announced on Monday. The book, titled ‘Unscripted: Conversations on Life and Cinema’ is a conservational memoir co-authored by Chopra and his long-time collaborator Abhijat Joshi. ‘Unscripted’ is up for pre-order on Amazon and will release on January 25.

‘Unscripted’ is a memoir of Chopra’s life, right from his childhood in Wazir Bagh, Kashmir, to his successful career as a filmmaker in Mumbai, the country’s entertainment & financial capital. Collaborating with the likes of Rajkumar Hirani, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, and Pradeep Sarkar, he has created some of the most memorable Hindi films of the modern era. Penguin India will publish the book under the Ebury Press, its dedicated imprint for the best non-fiction titles in the country.

In his debut book, Vidhu Vinod Chopra speaks to his frequent collaborator and screenwriter Abhijat Joshi. Joshi has been instrumental in the success of Vinod Chopra Films, the filmmaker production house, in recent years. He was the screenwriter for mega-blockbusters like ‘Lage Raho Munna Bhai’, ‘3 Idiots’, ‘PK’, and ‘Sanju’. However, the Joshi has been working with Chopra since 1992, after the latter met after watching his play, ‘A Shaft of Sunlight’, in Birmingham.

About the Author

Vidhu Vinod Chopra is one of the most successful filmmakers in India. His first short film, An Encounter with Faces, was nominated for the Oscars in 1978, and since then he has delivered classics like ‘Parinda’, ‘Khamosh’, ‘1942: A Love Story’, ‘Munna Bhai MBBS’, ‘3 Idiots’, etc. He currently runs the Vinod Chopra Films, a leading film production company, while his wife, Anupama Chopra runs an independent film & entertainment media house, Film Companion.

Abhijat Joshi is an award-winning and critically acclaimed screenwriter. He has written the screenplay for about ten Indian films. Joshi also wrote the American mystery thriller, Broken Horses, starring Anton Yelchin, directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra. Additionally, he is a professor of English at Otterbein University in Westerville, Ohio.
